Itinerary
A 750-Year-Old Architectural Treasure in the Anti-Atlas Mountains
Discover one of the oldest “igoudar” (plural of Agadir) in the region – the remarkable Agadir Imechguiguiln. This fortified communal granary once served as a secure storage space for local villagers, protecting food supplies, harvests, jewelry, valuable documents, and other precious belongings.
Dating back over 750 years, this historic site was carefully restored in 2018, preserving the traditional Anti-Atlas construction techniques. The restoration included over 30 storage rooms, a central square, a mosque, and several annexes, offering visitors a unique glimpse into Morocco’s ancestral heritage and mountain life.
A Hidden Gem in the Heart of the Anti-Atlas Mountains
As a charming second stop on our journey through the so-called “Golden Triangle” of southern Morocco, the Ahl Souss Dam offers a peaceful escape surrounded by untouched nature. Nestled deep in the Anti-Atlas Mountains, this serene location invites you to relax, take scenic photos, and marvel at the beautiful reservoir lake set against a backdrop of dramatic mountain landscapes.
It’s a perfect moment of tranquility and natural beauty, ideal for nature lovers and photographers alike.
Breathtaking Views & Timeless Villages
Embark on a scenic journey through the rugged beauty of the Anti-Atlas Mountains, where nature and tradition coexist in harmony. Along this winding mountain road, you'll discover breathtaking landscapes, perched villages clinging to cliffs—some still inhabited, others long abandoned—and a sense of tranquility only found in Morocco's untouched nature.
This route is a dream for nature lovers, photographers, and adventure seekers looking to reconnect with the land's raw authenticity.
A Fortress of History Overlooking the Valley
Discover the Kasbah of Tizourgane, a 13th-century fortified village perched above a traditional Berber settlement. Originally built as a safe haven for local farmers during tribal conflicts, its hilltop position was both a strategic defense and a way to preserve fertile valley land for agriculture.
Today, part of the kasbah has been beautifully restored and transformed into a charming guesthouse, using authentic ancestral building techniques. Nestled among argan and almond trees, this site is especially stunning during January and February, when the blossoms create a magical landscape.
A Journey Through Surreal Pink Granite Landscapes
After crossing the spectacular mountain landscapes of the Anti-Atlas, you'll arrive in the charming town of Tafraout, nestled in a picturesque valley surrounded by bizarre and fascinating pink granite formations. These rounded, sculpted rocks, balanced at the foot and atop the mountains, seem almost otherworldly — shaped over centuries by wind and erosion.
The natural beauty of Tafraout is like nowhere else, offering unforgettable photo opportunities and a feeling of being immersed in a giant open-air art gallery. It's the perfect destination for nature lovers, photographers, and those in search of authentic Moroccan landscapes.
Tradition, Craftsmanship & Historic Walls
On the return journey, we head toward Tiznit, a town known for its ancient fortified walls and its deep-rooted tradition of silver jewelry craftsmanship. Along the way, enjoy a scenic stop at the Kerdous Pass, perched at an altitude of 1,100 meters, offering breathtaking views of the surrounding Anti-Atlas mountains.
Once in Tiznit, you'll discover the city's 6-kilometer ramparts built in the 19th century to protect the medina. A short drive around the walls gives you a glimpse into the city's rich heritage. For those interested, an optional stop at a local silver jewelry cooperative is available — an excellent opportunity to admire the intricate work of Tiznit's renowned artisans.
We’ll then continue our route back to Agadir in a relaxed and scenic manner.
