Touristic Trip: Grand Southern Morocco (Ouarzazate) – Departing from Agadir
Discover Ouarzazate, a city located to the south of the High Atlas mountain range and known as the gateway to the southeastern Sahara. Explore the impressive Taourirt Kasbah—an 18th-century fortress constructed using traditional rammed-earth techniques (a mixture of sun-dried soil and straw). This formidable structure once housed a fortified palace, similar to medieval castles, which served as the residence of the local Pasha, the high dignitary of Moroccan royalty.

Continue your journey with a visit to the iconic red-earth ksar of Aït Ben Haddou, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. This ancient fortified settlement is comprised of traditional earthen buildings enclosed by robust defensive walls and accented by corner towers—a striking example of pre-Saharan architectural heritage in Southern Morocco.

Day 01 :

Agadir – Ouarzazate (380 km)

Depart from Agadir at 9:00 AM and set out for an exciting journey. Start with a visit to Taroudant, where you’ll explore the ancient medina, vibrant souks, and impressive ramparts. Enjoy lunch in the scenic Tiout palm grove before continuing to Taliouine. Your journey then leads to the iconic ksar of Ait Benhaddou, a UNESCO World Heritage site since 1987. After a guided tour of the ksar, head on to Ouarzazate for your overnight stay.

Day 02 :

Ouarzazate – Zagora – Erg Lihoudi (260 km)

Set off at 9:00 AM, heading southward. Your first stop is at a natural marvel often referred to as the “Grand Canyon,” followed by a drive through the renowned Draa Valley. Upon arrival in Zagora, take a break for lunch. Next, continue toward the village of Tamegroute, where you’ll visit a local pottery workshop producing traditional green ceramics, explore an underground kasbah, and admire an ancient Quranic library. The adventure continues to the Tinfou dunes, where you can pause for photos, and then proceed to the village of Oulad Driss (just before reaching “M’hamid El Ghizlane”). Here, enjoy a one-hour camel ride that brings you to a desert camp nestled among the golden dunes of Erg Lihoudi, just in time to witness a stunning sunset.

Day 03 :

Erg Lihoudi – Zagora – Agadir (540 km)

Begin the morning early at the camp to experience a beautiful sunrise and a delightful breakfast under the desert sky. After departing from the dunes, take a final camel ride back to the starting point in Oulad Driss. From there, board your vehicle and journey back through Zagora and Agdz for lunch. As you travel, you’ll enter the magnificent Draa Valley—the world’s largest palm grove—which you’ll traverse for over 100 km. The route continues through Taznakht and Taliouine before finally returning you to Agadir.
